Cooke Aquaculture said it has signed an exclusive sales and marketing partnership agreement with Canada’s We’koqma’q First Nation for its Bras d’Or Lakes grown steelhead trout.

The We’koqma’q people trace their history on the shores of the Bras d’Or Lakes, Nova Scotia, back over 13,500 years.

In 2011, a trout fish farm was re-established in We’koqma’q.

“The Cooke family business shares our belief that aquaculture can be developed in a manner that protects and preserves the environment for future generations,” said We'koqma'q First Nation Chief Rod Googoo.
