Chinese online retail conglomerate Alibaba posted a 26 percent increase in gross merchandise volume (GMV) for its 11.11 "singles day" promotional discount sale.

In just 24 hours, Alibaba posted RMB268.4 billion ($38.4 billion).

Alibaba has made a major push to source more seafood for online promotions, the most notable example being Canadian lobster.

Last year, Alibaba recorded sales of 100,000 lobsters in just one day.

Alibaba is offering Canadian businesses product selection, pricing, logistics and marketing to boost the market.

The e-commerce giant also holds workshops to bridge the gap between Chinese customers and small-to-medium businesses around the world.
