Icelandic golden redfish is still struggling to find back to its old market strength, despite two third-party sustainable certifications backing a healthy outlook for fishing.
Once a traditional item on German dinner plates, the market collapsed after it was deemed as a fish to avoid by environmental groups such as Greenpeace and WWF.
However today, the stock is well-managed, certified under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Icelandic Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification, which was renewed in October this year.
With a quota of more than 48,000 metric tons this fishing year, Icelandic companies are now trying to push the fish into the German market once again to get it back to its former glory.
