The uncertainty surrounding Brexit and its economic implications may alter a long-established market source for haddock, should Iceland begin diverting its haddock to the US market and away from UK processors.

A failure to reach a deal with Brussels before the March 29 deadline may impact the supply of Britain’s fifth most traded species, albeit gradually.

Unlike cod, the bigger whitefish import from the UK’s northern neighbors, most of the imported haddock is consumed in the United Kingdom, said Jon Stefansson, head of research and analysis at Reykjavik, Iceland-based Sea Data Center.
