Portuguese and Norwegian cod producers and processors grappling for share of the lucrative Christmas market say they will be satified if sales roughly match 2018 levels.

Riberalves Commercial Director Marcelo Nasser said exchange rates will again play a major role in the market this year with cod up to 20 percent more expensive than a year ago because of the weakness of Brazil's currency.

But with the Brazilian economy beginning to move after a recession stretching back to 2013, Nasser is not downbeat about the prospects even if exchange rates are 10-15 percent worse off this year.
