Airline joins IT firm in seafood transport venture
EmiratesSkyCargo-Seafood Souq partnership ultimately plans to reach a global clientele.
Emirates airlines' SkyCargo division is teaming up with with Dubai start-up Seafood Souq to transport seafood, starting with a shipment of Scottish salmon from Glasgow Airport.
The partnership will initially focus on delivering fresh seafood from suppliers in Norway, Cyprus, Chile, the United States and Scotland to customers in the UAE and the Middle East, although the startup plans to use Emirates SkyCargo’s global network to reach a global clientele.
The first consigment of Scottish salmon arrived in Dubai on Sept. 6 from Glasgow Airport destined for restaurants and consumers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Seafood Souq has created an online B2B marketplace app that helps seafood buyers procure products from all over the world, which it says allows for improved quality and traceability of the produce being transported.
Better information sharing facilitated by the platform means that there are likely to be fewer instances of mis-labelling and expiry of seafood, according to the company.
