US District Court Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga granted final approval to an $85-million (€84.6 million) settlement in the class action lawsuit against Norwegian salmon farmers on Sept. 8, resolving claims brought by plaintiffs that six defendants were colluding or conspiring to fix the price of Norwegian salmon purchased in the United States.

In May, Salmon farming giants, including Mowi, Leroy, SalMar, Cermaq, and Grieg, agreed to pay $85 million to US seafood buyers who are plaintiffs in the lawsuit. The global settlement will be distributed among 800 direct purchasers of farm-raised Norwegian salmon and salmon products.
