Lawyers representing several of Canada's First Nations stood staunchly in favor of a judicial review of the decision to phase out salmon farming in British Columbia's Discovery Islands by next year.

Brenda Gaertner, who represented a coalition of First Nations in her testimony, told a Canada federal court on Oct. 22 that outgoing Canada Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan's decision to phase out salmon farming in the Discovery Islands was "clearly reasonable," opposing arguments made by salmon farmers Mowi, Cermaq and Grieg, who all operate in the region.
