Mexican tuna firm Servax Bleu has filed a lawsuit against California-based Umami Sustainable Seafood, alleging the company engaged in a fraud scheme.

In 2017, Servax Bleu and its former partner Maricultura del Norte (Marnor) won a $2.3 million (€2.1 million) judgement against Umami and lender WorldBusiness Capital (WBC) alleging Umami planned to seize its fishing fleet by preventing repayment of debt.

Following the 2017 judgement, "Umami doubled down on its bad faith contractual breaches by pursuing an award of attorneys’ fees and costs in the Mexican court," a lawsuit Servax Bleu filed with a New York US District Court on Thursday reads.
