American Aquafarms' only avenue to building its 30,000 metric-ton closed-containment farm in Maine is to start over, according to officials with the state of Maine.

"They can't refile their appeal," Jeff Nichols of Maine's Department of Marine Resources (DMR), told IntraFish. "That avenue is closed off to them now."

On Monday, American Aquafarms was joined by the DMR and project opponent Frenchman Bay United in dismissing the seafood company's appeal against the DMR for a decision in a Maine superior court on May 19 that terminated its application.
