The US Pacific hake, or whiting, total allowable catch (TAC) for 2019 remains unchanged from 2017 and 2018, at 441,433 metric tons.

Under the agreement between the United States and Canada on Pacific hake/whiting and the Pacific Whiting Act of 2006, the US fleet will have access to 73.88 percent or 326,131 metric tons, and 26.12 percent, or 115,302 metric tons goes to Canada.

Harvest specifications are set as follows:

  • Tribal allocation: 77,251 metric tons
  • Research and bycatch set-aside: 1,500 metric tons
  • Harvest guideline: 362,682 metric tons

The harvest guideline is split up as follows:

  • Catcher/processor coop program: 123,312 metric tons (34 percent of total harvest guideline)
  • Mothership coop program: 87,044 metric tons (24 percent of total harvest guideline)
  • Shore-based IFQ program: 152,327 metric tons (42 percent percent of total harvest guideline)
