Republican Maine Senator Susan Collins is seeking to keep the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from implementing stricter rules on the state's lobster fishery regarding right whales.

That's according to the Huffington Post, which said Tuesday Collins has put a provision that would cement NOAA lobster regulations from 2021 into the $1.7 trillion (€1.6-trillion) US government funding bill Congress is reviewing for 2023.

In 2021, NOAA released new restrictions for lobster traps in an effort to reduce the risk of those traps entangling and harming or killing whales.
