The latest figures from UK trade association Seafish reveals the total operating profit of country's fleet plunged 4 percent in 2018 to £268 million (€310 million/$351 million).

The UK Fleet Economic Performance Dataset released this month showed a decrease in active fishing vessels from 4,709 in 2017 to 4,512 in 2018, of which 36 percent were deemed low-activity vessels with an annual income of less than £10,000 (€11,572/$13,095).

Operating profit as a percentage of total income flat-lined at 26 percent, a 1 percent decrease from the year before.
