The Argentine red shrimp fishery has been seeking MSC certification since 2016, and although Ernesto Godelman, CEO of the Center for Development and Sustainable Fisheries (CeDePesca), sounded an optimistic tone this week in a press release, there remains no concrete timeline for when the fishery could potentially be certified.

Traditionally the main markets for Argentine red shrimp were Spain and Italy, but since 2014 shipments to the US market have increased nearly fourfold to 16,816 metric tons worth $188 million (€179 million) in 2021.
