TEN YEARS ago a British trawler owner told me proudly that he had ordered a new beamer, writes Quentin Bates.
He was delighted to announce this – and there was an unmistakable note of pride in his voice as he said “no” to the question whether the new ship would be fitted out for twin-rigging or any other alternative fishing method.
