Spanish bluefin tuna company Grup Balfego began fishing in the Balearic fishing grounds in the Mediterranean Sea on May 26, aiming to catch a total 1,872 metric tons of Atlantic bluefin tuna through June 24.

The group closed the 2017-2018 financial year with a turnover of €50 million ($58.3 million), and it expects an increase in volumes this year from the higher quota.

"That is not to say that revenues will be higher, because it depends a lot on exchange rates, but in terms of volume we are increasing year-on-year, and the quotas are set to grow until 2020," Grup Balfego Managing Director Juan Serrano told IntraFish.
