The Spanish purse seine bluefin tuna fishing season will kick off May 26 in the Mediterranean Sea and the Easter Atlantic, reports Efe.

The season will last from May 25 until June 24, with the Spanish purse seine fleet allowed to catch a total 1,346 metric tons, an increase of 18 percent over last year’s quota.

The total allowable catch (TAC) of Atlantic Bluefin tuna for Spanish vessels – of all kinds – is 5,000 metric tons, for which the most important fleets are the purse seine with 1,346 metric tons and the almadrabas, in southern Spain, with 1,293 metric tons.
