UK Fisheries, the owner and operator of the UK's last distant-water whitefish trawler, Kirkella, is slamming last week's bilateral agreement on whitefish and pelagic fishing opportunities between the United Kingdom and Norway, as being “another body blow for fishers in the northeast of England.”

The UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said Friday the new deal for 2023 means UK fishing vessels will have increased opportunities for the key fish stocks worth nearly £5 million (€5.8 million/$6 million).
