The Alaska pollock "B" fishing season--which started around June 10--is not providing much hope the industry will catch up on producing in-demand product forms.

Several executives with major inshore operations as well as catcher-processors fishing in Alaska confirmed with IntraFish that while there has been ample pollock to catch in Alaska's Bering Sea, the size of the fish--which range from 250 – 350 grams--is not ideal.

"If fish size continues as is, the industry will struggle to close the pinbone-out (PBO) gap left over going back to last B Season," one executive with an inshore Alaska plant told IntraFish.
