The National Food Administration has confirmed up to 470 metric tons of salmon mortalities at Arnarlax, five times more than its earlier estimate, reported Stundin.

The company previously estimated that around 100 metric tons was lost, due to "difficult conditions."

The agency also specified that the final count could grow even higher. Over 800,000 farmed salmon were in Arnarlax cages in Arnarfjordur at the end of last year, according to the agency.

The mortalities were previously reported to be fish ranging in size between 6 to 9 kilos.
