Norway is seeing higher demand from buyers for saithe as they search for alternative whitefish products amid mounting supply chain challenges.

While the demand for saithe from whitefish buyers is likely to intensify, the trend is already apparent in the sector, Morten Jensen, CEO of Insula-owned Norwegian whitefish supplier Nordic Group, told IntraFish.

“We are feeling it already,” he said.

The demand for saithe blocks as well as fresh saithe portions, loins and fillets has been high this year, and “we believe that will continue in 2023 and may be enhanced by the steep reduction in cod quota,” Jensen said.
