Russia’s Fisheries Research Institute is approving an increase in the country's pollock quota for 2020, setting the total allowable catch (TAC) at just more than 1.83 million metric tons -- up 24,000 metric tons from the 2019 level.

The growth is expected to come mainly from pollock catches in the Sea of Okhotsk.

In 2019, Russia’s overall TAC for pollock fishing was set at more than 1.80 million metric tons, including 1.07 million metric tons in the Sea of Okhotsk, and 693,800 metric tons in the combined West Bering Sea, East Kamchatka, North Kuril and South Kuril zones.
