NORWAY’S most modern fishing vessel – the purse seiner Libas (right) – could become the first sea fishing vessel with computer-operated sails, reports Einar Lindbaek of FiskeribladetFiskaren (FF).
FNI’s sister publication FF reports that a pilot project to examine the benefits of fitting the modern superseiner with sails will finish in September and the sails could be hoisted by the end of this year.
Lars Olav Lie, CEO of her owner LieGruppen, tells FF: “That’s the plan. We have every confidence in the project and are quite certain Libas will be fitted out with sails to operate interactively with engine power.”
