Hundreds of Peruvian fishermen took to the streets Jan. 8 calling for the immediate termination of the second anchovy fishing season, Correoreported.

Protesters marched from Coishco to Chimbote -- where the Ministry of Production is located --demanding the closure of anchovy fishing in Peru's North Central zone as part of an effort to protect the huge amount of juveniles among Peru's coast.

They also called for the resignation of Minister of Production Rocio Barrios.

Peruvian authorities had extended a ban on anchovy fishing from Jan.
