Icelandic fishing giant Brim is acquiring 50 percent of the shares of Polar Seafood Denmark, the company announced Friday.

The other remaining shares will be owned by Polar Seafood Greenland.

The shares will be acquired from companies owned by Helge Nielsen, Bent Norman Petersen and Louise Schov Petersen through a newly established Danish holding company owned by Brim.

"We have been looking for new owners for the Danish operations for some time," Polar Seafood Chairman Henrik Leth told IntraFish.

"Polar Seafood Denmark was facing generational challenges and was in need of new owners.
