Peruvian anchovy vessels have harvested 2.12 million metric tons, or 85 percent of their 2.5 million metric tons in the country's north-central waters, according to Peru's National Fisheries Society (SNP).

Fishing is being permitted in areas where juvenile fish do not exceed 11 -13 percent of stocks.

"It's estimated that the season will close in 15 days," an SNP spokesperson told IntraFish.

Earlier speculation swirled that authorities might bring the curtain down on the season because of the high presence of juveniles in some areas, but Peru's Production ministry (PRODUCE) has been implementing mini-bans in such areas.
