Peruvian anchovy vessels harvested 1.84 million metric tons, or 73.5 percent, of their 2.5 million metric tons quota by May 9 in the country's north-central waters, according to Peru's National Fisheries Society (SNP).

Fishing is being permitted to take place in areas where juvenile fish do not exceed 11-13 percent of stocks.

Earlier speculation swirled that authorities might bring the curtain down on the season because of the high presence of juveniles in some areas, but Peru's Production ministry (PRODUCE) has been implementing mini-bans in such areas.
