Peru's Ministry of Production (Produce) called an end to the second anchovy fishing season in the North-Central Zone on Monday Jan. 25, with around 90 percent of the quota caught, or around 2.78 million metric tons.

The government closed the season based on recommendations from the Instituto del Mar del Peru (Imarpe).

Imarpe's report on the reproductive process of the anchovy and the North-Central stock concluded there was an increase in maturation and spawning, which will intensify from the fourth week of January.
