The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reached a legal settlement with the Pebble Limited Partnership, which is hoping to build a copper mine in Alaska's Bristol Bay, reports the Washington Post.

The settlement, reached late Thursday, doesn't grant approval of the Pebble Mine project -- that would still need to undergo federal environmental review and state review -- but it does reverse the EPA's determination that a large-scale mine in the Bristol Bay watershed could be a danger to the sockeye salmon industry.
