The first month of the Oregon Dungeness crab fishing season has already managed to surpass the previous season's landings and ex-vessel value, despite rough weather and worker shortages.

As of Jan. 4, the Oregon Dungeness crab fleet had landed 12.8 million pounds (5,806 metric tons), aided by a season that started on time on Dec. 1 for the first time in seven years.

“We’re so glad to see the fishermen all getting a safe start and a chance this year to have Oregon Dungeness crab for the holidays,” said Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission Executive Director Hugh Link.
