Norwegian krill processor Rimfrost awarded a contract to global technology distributor Westcon for a new krill fishing vessel worth over NOK 1 billion ($108.9 million/€98.9 million).

The vessel is expected to be ready for operation by 2022.

Rimfrost principal shareholder Stig Remoy said the company has long worked with Norwegian specialists to develop technology to significantly improve the sector in terms of resource utilization and sustainability.

He expects that the new vessel will "revolutionize krill fishing in Antarctica."

Rimfrost has been collaborating closely with Westcon regarding the design for the vessel, which is to be the biggest the company has built, said Westcon CEO Oystein Matre said.
