Has the 2021 sockeye salmon run in Alaska's Bristol Bay peaked?

That's the burning question for fishermen scrambling to decide in which fishing area in the bay they should set their nets.

The fish caught through July 6 now account for around 51 percent of the 36.4 million fish Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) forecasted to be harvested in the Bay this season.

"The big question is has the run peaked and is it trending down or will the eastside fish show up and have the run keep building?" ADFG Biologist Tim Sands told IntraFish.
