As of Jan. 1, 2020, the National Fishing Corporation of Namibia (Fishcor) has been granted an initial 25,000 metric tons of horse mackerel quota by the government.

The news was confirmed by the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries to IntraFish.

The total allowable catch (TAC) for the entire year is 330,000 metric tons, down from last year's TAC of 349,000 metric tons.

The allocation follows the Samherji cash-for-quotas scandal, which led to the arrests of former Fishcor chairperson James Hatuikulipi and suspended CEO Mike Nghipunya and others implicated under corruption charges.
