The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) will suspend its certification of the North East Atlantic mackerel fishery on March 2.

The suspension affects all four certificates for fisheries across eight countries, according to the MSC. Mackerel caught on or after March 2 cannot be sold as ‘MSC certified’ or bear the blue MSC label, however, this will not affect products that are already labeled and, given the long supply chains for mackerel, "we will likely see labeled product on shelves for some time," said the MSC.
