Nine of South Africa's fisheries will form part of a four-year project launched by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to work towards certification.

The longline yellowfin tuna, pole and line albacore tuna, the purse seine netted sardine, the hand caught east coast rock lobster, the commercial west coast rock lobster fishery, the rope grown black mussel, the jig caught squid, and the west coast multispecies line fisheries make up the nine.

Named the "Fish For Good" project, it is funded by the Dutch Postcode Lottery and aims to guide fisheries towards more sustainability using MSC criteria as a framework.
