UP TO 2000 fishermen and their families have marched through Spain’s top fishing port of Vigo to protest at high fuel prices.
They were joined by fishermen from Portugal and carried banners with the slogans ‘Let’s save the fishing industry,’ ‘SOS fishing,’ ‘Fisheries minister wanted dead or alive,’ ‘I sell swordfish at €3. How much do you pay?’ and ‘Ships tied up, fishermen out of work.’
The marchers stopped at the offices of the Galician regional government overlooking the sea.
Demonstrators were demanding government aid to counteract soaring fuel prices and low auction prices.
