Measures to limit chum salmon bycatch in Alaska pollock fishery taking shape

The fisheries council is considering new management measures for chum salmon bycatch in the Bering Sea pollock fishery.

The chum stocks in western Alaska regions have seen precipitous population declines in recent years and hardship on subsistence users, which has prompted an outpouring of calls for the pollock fishery to minimize bycatch of western Alaska chum salmon in particular.
