Adisorn Promthep, chief of Thailand’s Department of Fisheries, said an increase on mackerel biomass over the past three years in the Gulf of Thailand shows the country is in the right track to implementing regulations required by the European Union in fisheries management, reports Bangkok Post.

Authorities imposed a mackerel fishing ban duting the spawning season covering 26,400 square kilometers in the Gulf that has led to a recovery in both juvenile and adult biomass in the area.
