POT HAULERS manufactured on the Isle of Raasay in the Western Isles by hydraulic engineer Donald MacLeod are a common sight aboard creel boats in Britain and Ireland, writes DAVID LINKIE.

Fishermen are attracted by the simplicity and reliability of the MacLeod pot haulers and more than 300 units have been supplied since they were introduced 20 years ago.

The first unit was the R8, which features 300mm diameter sheaves and a pull rating of 0.5 to 0.75 tonne and is for use mainly in prawn and velvet crab fishing.
