Two of Russia's largest seafood associations are calling for the federal government to pause the second stage of the country's investment quota program, which has led to a boom in new vessels and shore-based processing plants, particularly in the whitefish sector.

The Russian Pollock Catchers Association (PCA) and the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises (VARPE), citing unprecedented sanctions being imposed on the country over its war in Ukraine, said the industry could face severe financial consequences if the program were to go forward in the current climate.
