The Marine Ingredients Organization (IFFO) has provided explanations as to why 150,000 metric tons of Peruvian anchovy intended for direct human consumption might instead have been used for the production of fish meal in 2018.

A new report by the NGO Oceana claimed 150,000 metric tons of Peruvian anchovy intended for direct human consumption was instead "illegally" used for the production of fish meal.

While IFFO said it rejects all illegalities in the Peruvian anchovy industry supply chain, the organization understands there could be commercial reasons behind this.
