The International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) is recommending a 20 percent cut in both Barents Sea cod and haddock quotas for 2022.

ICES advises that, when the Joint Norwegian–Russian Fisheries Commission (JRNFC) management plan is applied later this year, catches of cod in 2022 should be no more than 708,480 metric tons.

This is down 20 percent from the advice for 2021, which was set at 885,600 metric tons partly due to declining stock trends, said ICES.
