The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) increased its North Sea herring quota advice by 38.4 percent for the 2020 fishing season.

ICES set a recommended total allowable catch (TAC) of 418,619 metric tons in direct fishing (431,062 metric tons in total), up 38.4 percent from 2019, since this year’s report shows an improvement in biomass levels.

For the current year, the recommended quota is 291,040 metric tons in direct fishing (311,572 tonnes in total), while the agreed quota ended at 385,008 metric tons .
