The International Council for the Exploration of Sea (ICES) recommended a total allowable catch (TAC) of 698,672 metric tons of cod in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea eco-regions for 2020.

The advice is an increase of 2 percent compared with its 674,678-metric-ton recommendation in 2019.

However, it represents a fall of 5 percent compared with the final quota of 725,000 metric tons allocated for the region last year.

In addition, ICES recommended a haddock TAC of 215,000 metric tons for 2020 in the Arctic Ocean, Barents Sea, Faroes, Greenland Sea, Icelandic Waters, and Norwegian Sea eco-regions.
