ICES advises hefty cuts to Northeast Atlantic herring, mackerel quotas, but ups blue whiting

For years individual states have been setting separate quotas that, when combined, significantly exceed the sustainable limits advised by ICES.

ICES is proposing a quota of 511,171 metric tons for Norwegian spring-spawning herring next year, down from an estimated catch of 827,963 metric tons in 2022.
