Icelandic vessels in April landed 113,094 metric tons of seafood, down 23 percent year-on-year, largely because of weaker blue whiting harvests.

Over the 12 month period, the total catch dropped 12 percent to 1.1 million metric tons due to less pelagic catch, according to Statistics Iceland.

Demersal catch flatlined at 49,000 metric tons, the flatfish catch sunk 15 percent and shellfish harvests slipped 32 percent compared to last year.
