Icelandic vessels landed 109,000 metric tons of fish in April, an increase of 5 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.
The increase was driven by high landings of blue whiting, which reached 67,000 metric tons in April, compared with 56,000 metric tons in April last year.
On the other hand demersal catch decreased from 43,000 metric tons to 40,000 metric tons in April, year-on-year.
Cod landings amounted to 18,000 metric tons, a 10 percent decrease from April last year.
In the 12-month period through April, overall catch decreased by 59,000 metric tons, or 5 percent, compared with the same period a year earlier.
