During the 1960s Aberdeen was the leading Scottish port for seine net landings, but by the mid seventies Peterhead had become the main port.
The Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistical Tables show that seiners put ashore 486,560 cwt of demersal fish worth £2,003,036 in 1969 at Aberdeen. But catches from seiners at Peterhead that year amounted to only 172,915 cwt valued at £622,153 and landings were only significant on Saturdays when Aberdeen market was closed.
