The European Union urged Liberia to tighten its measures against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and issued a red card -- the highest punishment which stops imports from the issued country -- to Indian Ocean nation Comoros and Caribbean country Saint Vicent and the Grenadines.
According to the EU, authorities of the national fisheries of Liberia do not have the information or means to control fleets under its flag, while the country’s register is the second largest in the world.
