Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has unveiled the EU’s first IT tool, known as “CATCH," aimed at streamlining checks of seafood products entering the EU market.

The tool shown publicly for the first time at the Brussels Seafood Expo is aimed at protecting the EU market against products stemming from illegal fishing and part of global efforts to tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Access to the EU – the world’s biggest seafood market - is an important asset in convincing governments and exporters around the world to respect the rules protecting against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishery fishing," Vella said.
